My alarm clock woke me from my slumber this morning at 06:50, and being a Friday, it was time to go running before work. However, lazy me had other ideas. Lazy me wanted to stay in bed for a bit longer, have a leisurely breakfast and then take the car to work.
Sensible me however knew that the first few weeks are the hardest, that it would help in the long run, and most importantly, IT IS GOOD FOR YOU.
So I got up, put on my running gear, told lazy me to kiss my ass, and went running...

Train ride from hell :(
I attended my final Open University tutorial before my exams on Saturday, and whilst the tutorial itself was great, getting there wasn't. First of all, the train had four carriages and enough people on board to fill six, and then a Virgin Trains representative asked us to move out of the way of the door so that some MORE people could get on board. She didn't react overly well when we pointed out that we were already crammed in like sardines in a can, and that a few extra carriages wouldn't go amiss. She just got more pushy and insistant that we let these extra people on.
Well, we did our best, and they all got on, but now there were 12 people in the little bit at the end of the carriage, although the next stop, 10 minutes away, was mine. This turned out to be a very good thing, because 12 people in that confined space meant it was very warm, and to say I felt unwell was an understatement! My top of my head felt like someone was putting needles in it, and I honestly thought I was going to be sick. But in the end, I managed to stave off the effects for the 5 or 6 minutes they lasted and get off the train.
Needless to say, the train company will be getting a letter of complaint!

The end of the world? Not quite!
If you were a scientist, or a crazy person who believed the world would end when the turned on the LHC, today was D-Day. On the morning of September 10th 2008, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) was turned on at CERN.
A momentus achievement for sure, and the prophets of doom were proved wrong. Did anyone seriously believe them? Well actually, yes. Some people even tried to get a court order preventing the machine from starting as it could violate everyones "Right To Life".
Anyway, as the was no court order in the end, the swtich was thrown (was it really a switch? I should check that out), the machine was started, and a stream of Protons circulated the 27KM circuit. First time too, that's pretty good for your first test.
Strangely, as only one beam was going to be fired at first (and another completely seperately in the other direction later on), there was NEVER going to be a collision today, so no danger of a black hole that would swallow the Earth. Although to be fair, some people think the Earth might be better off that way, but that's another story altogether.
So basically, No-one died; We're all still here, and here is a good article on it from the Daily Mail.
