The last two weekends have seen my longest runs yet (10.5 and 11.5 miles respectively) and this has hopefully put me in good stead for the Half Marathon in March.
This week I have tried to focus on running faster, so Wednesday I did 'Interval' running, which involves running at your normal pace (or slightly faster) and then running short bursts (400 meters or so) at almost full speed. I had been warned that this is quite tiring until your body gets used to it. Well, they weren't kidding! It's not so much my legs hurting, as not being able to get enough oxygen into my lungs.
Today, instead of Interval running (I'll try that again on Sunday), I just tried to run the same route I did on Wednesday, but in a shorter time. And I did - managed to knock 5 minutes of my previous time. So not too bad. Need to build up a couple of these speed runs, and then do another 11 miler next weekend. All in all, and touch wood, it is not going to bad. Yay :)
